Psalm 22:22

Mar 31 2024 | 04:00 PM

Psalm 22 portrays the crucifixion of Jesus. The first half of the psalm prophetically details the events of crucifixion 1000 years before the Romans developed it. It reveals the rejection and physical pain that Jesus experienced. It also portrays the spiritual activity around the cross (dogs and bulls). Then verse 22 is the linchpin that turns to a theme of rescue and victory. “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.”

A. The first time Jesus called the disciples His brothers was after the resurrection. Until then, He referred to them as friends and disciples but at that moment He called them brothers. The resurrection produced a family. The resurrection is not just about the greatness of God’s power but the fellowship of His power with us. God only celebrated resurrection within the context of you and I being part of it.

B. After the resurrection, Jesus offered something new to his disciples. “Peace be upon you.” He had never said that before. Peace is the fruit of resurrection because the enemy was destroyed by God who crushed the powers of darkness. When peace is declared, every fear, sickness, death, principality and authority will bow.

C. During the crucifixion, the Roman authorities and Jewish elite led Jesus about but after the resurrection, all the authority was given to Him. Jesus Christ is the captain and leads the way. He gave the commandment to go and He would be with us to the end of time. The entire purpose of resurrection and the essential outcome, is that there would be a seed to rise up to serve Him and to showcase His power. We will proclaim God’s faithfulness and praise to the next generation. Why? Because we have become His brothers.
