Trusting God in the Lion’s Den

~Achsah Lijo

“The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”  Daniel 6:23

As I was meditating in the book of Daniel, I was greatly touched by his faith. Daniel’s trust in God remained steadfast even in the face of danger. Thrown into the lions’ den, he had every reason to fear, yet he stood firm, believing that God would deliver him. His story challenges us as believers—will we trust God with the same boldness? When trials come, will we hold on to faith as Daniel did? His life serves as a powerful reminder that God honors those who trust in Him completely.

One of the things I have always admired most about Daniel is his prayer life. Scripture tells us that he prayed three times a day—consistently, faithfully, regardless of circumstance. He was truly a man of prayer. I imagine him in the den, still praying and trusting God. What an image of surrender and strength. This reminds us to pray and trust God, even in our hardest moments.

“My God sent His angel and He shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in His sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” — Daniel 6:22

God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions, and they did not harm Daniel because he was found innocent in God’s sight. Daniel’s quiet confidence before God deeply inspires me here. He declares his innocence. His boldness in saying this is truly inspiring.

As believers, we should strive to have the same confidence in our walk with God, knowing that when we live righteously, we can stand before God without fear. The circumstances we face in life may sometimes feel like a lion’s den, but even in our darkest moments, God will send His angels to shut the mouths of the lions.

Whatever your lion’s den may be today—a fear, a hardship, or a waiting season—remember it’s not the size of the trial that matters, but the depth of your trust. God’s presence is your greatest protection.

God, give us the grace to stand confidently before You, hearts pure and hands clean, knowing we are innocent in Your sight. Teach us to pray like Daniel—earnestly, consistently, and with joy. Draw us closer to You through Your Word and through every circumstance we face. May our faith be bold and our trust be deep. All glory, honour, and praise be to You now and forever. In Jesus’ precious Name. Amen.
