He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” Matthew 13:24-25
In Matthew 13:24–30, Jesus shares the parable of the weeds, a powerful picture of the kingdom of God. He tells of a landowner who sowed good seed in his field. But under the cover of night, an enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat. When the servants noticed the weeds growing alongside the crop, they asked if they should pull them up. The master, however, instructed them to wait until the harvest. At that time, the weeds would be separated from the wheat and burned.
This parable reminds us that we live in a fallen world where good and evil often grow side by side. Corruption and compromise are not only evident in society but, sadly, can also creep into the church. Yet Jesus makes it clear that the field is the world. In Matthew 13:38–42, He explains that the good seed represents the children of the kingdom, the weeds are the children of the evil one, the enemy is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age.
The Lord, in His wisdom and patience, allows both to grow together until the appointed time. There will be a final separation, carried out by His angels. But at the same time, we see the Lord purifying His church even now. In recent years, many hidden sins and compromises among leaders have come to light. Though painful, this reveals that God is holy, and He is at work, refining His people and sifting what is false from what is true.
As we wait for the final harvest, the exhortation in Revelation 2:25 is clear: “Only hold fast what you have until I come.” Our calling is to remain faithful, firm and steadfast. Let us stay rooted in Christ, abiding in the true Vine, and grounded in His Word. May we not be swayed by the spirit of the age, but instead be anchored in truth, obedience, and unwavering devotion to Him.
Lord, help us to hold fast to what You have given us until You return. Keep our hearts steadfast and our lives faithful. Guard us from compromise and from being swayed by the world
