Gather the Unfinished

~Alex Wu

John 10:40-42 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” And many believed in him there.

The past year may have left some things unfinished, some treasures unclaimed or some promises unfulfilled in our lives. When Jesus returned to Jordan River where John the Baptist used to herald the coming of the Messiah and baptize people, He was looking for the unfinished left by John and closing the loop for them. These people who approached Jesus at Jordan were likely John’s followers. They had heard about Christ in words and had understood that He would baptize people with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11). For a while, what they lacked was witnessing the signs and wonders accompanying Jesus that could only occur with the power of the Holy Spirit. Finally when these were done, time was ripe for them to become Jesus’ believers. Truth about Jesus must be declared prior to signs, as John the Baptist faithfully did, to legitimate the work of the Holy Spirit. But signs must also follow to prove that God’s word is true. As for me, I am bringing every unfulfilled promise left at my “Jordan River” to the meeting place where my Lord will soon return to gather. I know that many will be fulfilled in the year of 2025!

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the word and promises. These are great promises that give us hope and strength to keep walking with You. But we also know that you are the God of more. You will soon return to our “Jordan River” to gather the unfinished and fulfill the promises so that not only me us but many others will shout for joy and praise Your holy name! Lord, come to us in the new year. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
