Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13 For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
God is holding me with His right hand! If this does not sound shocking, let us read Isaiah 48:13 and Exodus 15:6. It is His right hand that created the heavens and earth. It is His right hand that shattered His enemy. The closest analogy I can think of for His right hand is a high-voltage power line. But instead of burning or melting me, it strengthens and helps me. What a wonderful God whom I am serving! Through the power and the tenderness of His right hand, I shall fear no evil. Hallelujah!
After mentioning God’s right hand, Prophet Isaiah went on to say that His right hand is not just holding any part of our body but our right hand. Imagine this: God’s right hand is holding our right hand. Of course, this speech is figurative. But the Lord nevertheless gave me a picture of the right hand-to-right hand contact. Recently, I had another fierce spiritual battle. With the help of His right hand, I emerged victorious. The picture of His right hand holding my right hand to win the battle showed that my God was standing directly in front of me, facing me and giving my hand a firm grip with His right hand. An important detail that I missed before is that by holding my right hand this way, God is also showing His face to me!
There is a spiritual saying that we seek His face, not His hand. Referring to the state of our heart, this is true. However, in some situations when we cry for help, His righteous right hand is reaching us. At the same time, His gracious face is shining upon us. I did not seek His face, but through His mercy, His face came regardless. I treasure this moment more than a victory, a miracle or a million dollars. After many years in the future, the joy for that victory or miracle will subside, but I shall forever remember that moment when Your right hand is holding my right hand and Your face is shining upon my face. Let us pray that this beautiful moment will come to all of us again and again, and into eternity! Amen.
