Divine Pause/Divine Stop

~Lowri Ann Clark

“And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.” Acts 16:6-7

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

When days and weeks pass by with so many things to do — work, school, errands, ministry, business, sitting in traffic, and doing dishes at home — we easily get caught up in it all. When prayer requests seem unanswered, or when we are redirected and have to pivot, we end up relying on our own strength and pushing forward until we completely feel overwhelmed and burned out.

But, being overwhelmed and burned out can serve as a divine pause — a moment to stop, refocus and recommit our daily walk with Jesus. It invites us to realign our lives with His will and direction as we journey with Him. When Apostle Paul experienced successive divine “stops”, he had the right attitude toward his troubles: he actually took pleasure in weaknesses and hardships. To “take pleasure” simply means to have the right mindset or to view things through God’s perspective.

Father God, thank You for allowing life’s circumstances to lead me to experience Your divine pause. Today, I recommit myself to walking daily with You and following Your direction for my life. As I continue this journey with You, please help me to have the right attitude, strength and the grace to see things from Your perspective. In Jesus Christ’ Name. Amen.
